My cell phone buzzes with an incoming text, pulling me out of my deepest thoughts. I pick up my phone from the nightstand and glance at it.

Brie: Just dropped Garrett off at school. Cal is home with Ari. I am driving right by Liam’s place on my way back to yours if you want a ride.

Shit! I think to myself. I had been so wrapped up in Liam that it had totally slipped my mind that today is Arianna’s monthly infusion. I quickly text a reply.

Me: YES! Please pick me up on your way! Ari has IVIG today.

Brie: Be there in eight minutes.

Me: Perfect.

Shoving my phone in my clutch purse, I find my clothes and quickly get dressed. I was just about to the front door when I hear Liam’s voice.

“Sneaking out on me?” Liam says from behind me.

“No, I was going to text you later. I swear. Brie is driving by here on the way back and Ari has IVIG today…”

“What’s that?”

“What’s what?”

“What is IVIG?” Liam questions.

“Intravenous Immunoglobulin,” I reply like it’s the most common words to speak on the planet.

“Okay, that didn’t help me much. Let’s go with why does Arianna need this IVIG?”

“It’s a minor complication from her life-saving stem cell transplant. She can’t produce antibodies on her own anymore. They infuse her with them so that she can go to school and not be in the hospital all the time.”

“How often does this happen?”

“Every four weeks. Which reminds me, I need to call my boss and remind him I won’t be in until this afternoon.”

“I think he got the message,” Liam says with a wink. He strides to me and wraps his arms around me, pulling me in for a savoring kiss.

Brie pulls into the driveway shouting through her open car window, “Get a room!”

We pull away from each other, our smiles widening. “I will see you at work. Give Ari a hug for me, and Garrett a high five since he’s too old for hugs. I had an amazing time with you, Mia,” Liam says with a smile.

“I will give hugs and high fives for you.” After a little pause I look him in the eyes. “I had a great time last night with you, too,” I say, trying not to come across shy.

I give him a kiss on the cheek and dart to Brie’s car and slide into the passenger seat.

“Spill it now!” Brie says excitedly as she pulls out of the driveway.

“We had a date and it was nice. We made love and fell asleep in each other’s arms and it was… nice.
